If you’re reading this, let me remind you to breathe. It’s been a weird couple of weeks and here at Second Shift, we’ve had to make a lot of changes, quickly. But, the one thing that’s not changed is our sense of community.
As a community coworking space in Logan Square, we value our members, the experiences they have, their interests and what makes them who they are inside and outside of work. So when news that the coronavirus was spreading quickly in the US we took action, together. While it meant a lot of us had to work from home we still see each other most days – virtually.
Coworking in the time of COVID-19 looks a little different, but here’s what we’re doing at Second Shift:
- We became self-service. Until the state-mandated shelter in place, we knew members still needed a place to work, so we gave them one. We asked members to take all proper precautions to keep themselves safe. We also upped our cleaning and disinfecting.
- We went virtual. We continue to provide Monday Morning Huddles, Snack Socials, Power Hours, Ladies Lunch and Happy Hours all virtually. And there are plans to integrate some activities with our partner location in Denver!

- We support each other. Our network is strong, and if we need something we have a community for support – whether it’s a new business idea, a way to help others, or a meme, we have each other’s backs. It’s more important than ever to have a network of supportive friends.
- We’re supporting local businesses. We’re dedicated to helping local businesses and encouraged our members who are able to do the same. Some on our list right now are Dark Matter Coffee and Chiya Chai.
If you’d like to help our Logan Square and Avondale neighborhood, you can support bar and restaurant workers on Milwaukee Ave by donating to the Milwaukee Ave Alliance Emergency Relief Fund.
To our Second Shift members, the entire Chicago coworking community, and non-members alike, we’re here for you. Take care and remember to WASH YOUR HANDS.
